Using Backlinks for SEO and More Traffic

In today’s Search Engine Optimization environment, there are two different and distinct areas we look at.

On-Page Optimization consists of things you can control on or about your site. Things like keywords only in your URL, keywords in your well written description, keywords used effectively in your page text, etc.

On-Page Optimization needs to be thoroughly understood and implemented before you move on to Off-Page Optimization strategies. Make sure your site is well-optimized before moving on.

On-Page and Off-Page Optimization are both important, but in today’s current SEO environment, Off-Page Optimization usually has more impact on a website’s rankings in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) than does On-Page. 구글상위노출

One of the most effective and powerful Off-Page Optimization strategies is that of building backlinks to your website. Also called incoming links, these links are from another website to yours without a reciprocal link back to the other site.

Reciprocal links used to be effective but they are not any longer. You want one-way links back to your website, the higher the referring page’s Page Rank, the better. Also very good if the link comes from a relevant website in your same niche.

You can check how many backlinks a website has in yahoo by typing link:yourwebsite.com (no spaces) and then in the page you’ll arrive at, find the dropdown box labeled “Show Inlinks” and select “Except from this domain”.

That will show you how many backlinks your site already has in Yahoo. Google is much slower to recognize backlinks and so I recommend monitoring your backlinking strategies through this use of Yahoo.

There are many different, effective ways to get backlinks these days. You can follow manual procedures like finding forums that do not have the nofollow rule setup.

Nofollow tags are, according to Wikipedia “nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring.”

What this means to us, in layman’s terms, is that sites that have nofollow setup don’t provide us with useful backlinks (in terms of building backlinks). So for us, they’re pretty much useless. Won’t hurt anything to have some but they won’t be contributing to the number of backlinks we have.
